What is Cloudflare? Why do you need it?

What is Cloudflare?

Cloudflare is one of the world’s largest set of networks with servers all around the world. Cloudflare and its services helps businesses from all around the world to have fast and secure websites. Cloudflare already has over 25 million users and this number is growing each day. The service itself is also very easy to integrate into websites regarding of their type (blog, e-commerce, portfolio, etc.).

How it can be useful?

When visiting websites which are not using Cloudflare’s services, your request would go from your computer to a server (where the website is hosted), which would then return the web page you requested. If too many requests came in at once, that server could be overwhelmed and crash, becoming unresponsive to anyone trying to access the resources it hosted. This is one of the main methods that hackers use when trying to temporary shut down a website – it is called DDoS attacks. This made it difficult for owners of Internet properties to provide content that was fast, safe, and reliable. Cloudflare was created to ease these difficulties and empower users with the resources to make their sites, apps, and blogs safe and performant. This is done through the use of a powerful edge network that provides content and other services as close to you as possible, so you get the information as fast as possible. To explain it in simple words, websites that are using Cloudflare’s services, are cached on Cloudflare’s database centres which are scattered all around the world, and that ensures amazing loading times no matter from where the visitors of the website are. Cloudflare’s users are also protected from the before mentioned DDoS attacks since it helps to identify and block “fake” connections trying to crash hosting server.
